Best Time of Year for Watersports in the UAE

22 March 2026 · Wavee

The UAE has a year-round watersport season, but conditions vary significantly across months. Here is what to expect and when to book for the best experience.

The short answer

October to April is peak season. Comfortable air temperatures, pleasant water, low humidity, and reliable morning glass make this the best window for wakeboarding, wakesurfing, and all towed watersports.

May to September is still rideable but hot. Air temperatures exceed 40°C and humidity is high. Water temperatures climb to 34°C. Early morning sessions (before 8 AM) are the way to manage it.

Month by month

October – November

Conditions: Excellent

The heat breaks and the season begins. Air temperatures drop to 28-33°C. Water is still warm (28-30°C) from the summer. Wind is generally light. This is when the wakeboarding community comes alive after the summer slowdown.

Best for: Everything. The sweet spot of warm water, comfortable air, and flat mornings.

December – February

Conditions: Excellent (with caveats)

Air temperatures range from 18-25°C. Water cools to 20-23°C — still swimmable but a wetsuit makes longer sessions comfortable. Some mornings can be surprisingly cool on the boat.

Wind is the main variable. The Shamal (northwesterly wind) can blow for days at a time, creating chop that makes riding difficult. Check the forecast before booking.

Best for: Riders who do not mind cooler water. Fewer crowds than peak months.

March – April

Conditions: Excellent

The water warms back up (24-27°C). Air is comfortable (25-33°C). Wind settles. Many riders consider this the single best window of the year — warm enough to ride without a wetsuit, cool enough to enjoy being outside.

Best for: The perfect balance. Book early — these months fill up fast.

May – June

Conditions: Good (mornings only)

Air temperatures cross 35°C and keep climbing. Humidity rises. Water warms to 29-31°C. The heat is manageable if you book a 6:00 or 6:30 AM slot and are off the water by 9:00.

Best for: Early risers who want warm water and empty slots. Prices sometimes drop as casual riders wait for autumn.

July – September

Conditions: Challenging

Peak summer. Air regularly exceeds 42°C with high humidity. Water reaches 33-34°C — it does not cool you down. Dehydration risk is real.

Some providers reduce schedules or close during the hottest weeks. Those who operate run early morning sessions only. If you ride in summer, bring extra water, wear a rash guard for sun protection, and keep sessions to 60 minutes.

Best for: Dedicated riders only. The upside — the water is dead flat because there are almost no boats out.

Wind matters more than temperature

On any given day, wind is the biggest factor in session quality. Flat water (glass) makes everything easier and more enjoyable. Even 10-15 km/h of wind creates enough chop to make wakesurfing difficult and wakeboarding less fun.

How to check: Look at the hourly wind forecast for your marina location. Under 10 km/h is ideal. Early mornings (6:00-8:00) are almost always calmer than afternoons.

When to book

The busiest slots are Friday and Saturday mornings from October to April. If you want the best conditions and availability:

  • Book 3-7 days in advance for weekend morning slots
  • Midweek mornings are almost always available same-day
  • Summer sessions rarely need advance booking
